Philosopher of the Week: Cunfucius

Confucius says that the more effort people must exert in order to learn, the less valuable these people are.  With that being said, should effort be rewarded in the same way as results?

  1. No it should not because some people are really smart but they don't try.

  2. No, because some people may try really hard, but have good results. If a doctor is preforming surgery on someone, you want good results instead of effort.

  3. No, because if you got rewarded for effort dumb people could do well for effort instead of results.

  4. No, because even though you put a ton of effort in, you may not have gotten the satisfactory result. Somebody who does not put any effort in but gets the job done is the more valuable person.

  5. No, because if there were two dentists and one just put in effort and one actually wanted results, you would want the dentist that would want the results because if they just gave effort, then you might not end up with good results.

  6. In my mindset no, because say you are a teacher and you put in so much effort, but the students learn nothing. That particular teacher is not looking for results they just want the effort. However, a teacher may want her/his students to grow, so she/he is looking for more results then the amount of effort she puts in. In my opinion, I would want the teacher with the goal for growth because I know then that there is a key point to the year of learning.

  7. No because if someone just gives effort they might not get a result. If you get reward for result then you will get more good results.

  8. I disagree with getting good scores based on effort, I think you should get a good score for getting a good score.

  11. No, because if you put in the effort, you'll get a good result.
Put some in, get some out

  12. No because if someone puts in a lot of effort and does bad, it could be because they maybe didn't put in a lot of effort for their standard, but for someone else it could be a lot of effort

  13. No, because if someone is performing a critical task, you want preciseness, not effort. Just because you put effort in doesn't mean it's right or good. It just means you tried and that doesn't help very much sometimes.

  14. No, because if you just put effort into does not mean the result would be good, but if one puts forth no effort and succeeds there will be good results.

  15. Some people give so much effort but just aren't able to be used. Say someone who has a natural skill for volleyball is put on the A team. Another girl who tries so hard during practice can't make her serves over, she may give more effort but is she more valuable to the team?

  16. No because in the work environment I want someone to do it correctly the first time instead of someone with great effort that takes ten times to the task.

  17. No because some people put in more effort than others, so they work harder to get poor results most of the time.

  19. No, because if someone is trying to save your life do you want them to be successful or just put effort into it

  20. I disagree, some people just naturally get good grades without putting much effort into it, but there are also some people that put a lot of effort into there work and do not get much out of it.

  21. No, because those who can get something done with a good result with little effort is more valuable.

  22. No because you can't help whether you are born smart or not. I think that what you do with your situation is what matters most.

  23. no because someone can work hard and kill some one and someone else can not work hard and not kill someone

  24. No, because if you were playing a sport for money, and you really stunk, you would let everyone down but you could try really hard.

  25. Yes because if someone puts a lot of effort into something that means they are hard workers and don't give up and people that put little effort don't know what to do when something hard comes up and might give up.
